Household and ambient air pollution are associated with negative health outcomes, particularly for pregnant women and children. Although the health impacts of poor air quality are well documented, the pathways and entry points to solutions that improve air quality are less described, particularly for lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs). LMIC Urban Air Pollution Solutions (July 2019) was developed through contributions from more than 20 technical experts in an effort to aggregate the potential solutions to address air pollution that are policy-relevant to LMICs and positively impact public health. In addition, this technical document describes the steps for approaching air quality management, including methods for measuring air pollution levels, identifying sources, and considering associated health impacts, and the document ends with a series of case studies to illustrate ongoing work to solve air quality challenges.
